4 DAYS NAROMORU ROUTE
Day 1: Nairobi -Met station (3,040mts)
Leave Nairobi at 0800hrs. for a drive to the Naru moru park gate. The drive normally takes 3hrs. Have a picnic lunch at the gate. From the gate, we trek up thro magnificent montane forest, bamboo and giant heather zone before reaching Met Station (3,040mts). The trek takes 3-4 hrs. A short hike will be taken in the afternoon to help acclimatization. Dinner and overnight at the bunk houses, Met Station.
Day 2: Met Station – Mackinders Camp (4,300mts)
After breakfast, start your 6-7 hours hike to Mackinders Camp. You will emerge on the edge of the forest where from where you hike across the marshy vertical bog of the lower moorlands. The hike offers gentle climb through fascinating vegetation with nice perspective of the back ground. Have a picnic lunch on the way then proceeding to the spectacular Teleki valley dotted with Lobelias arriving at Mackinders Camp (4,300mts) late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Mackinders Camp.
Day 3: Pt Lenana – Met Station
Pre-dawn start (3am) for the summit attempt. Up steep screes and a bare rocky track to reach the summit, Pt Lenana (4,985mts) in time for sunrise and have a clear view of the majestic scenery. Kilimanjaro is usually visible on a clear day to the south. After the sunrise, descend down to Mackinders camp for breakfast. After relaxing descend down through the steep vertical bog to Met Station (3 to 4 hours). Dinner and overnight at the bunk houses, Met Station.
Day 4: Met Station – Park Gate
After breakfast, have an easy hike down through the tropical rain forest and bamboo jungle to the park gate for 2½ hours. Be picked at the gate for a drive to Nairobi or other planned destination.
